Children’s Minnesota is pleased to announce that Sam Githinji, chief information security officer (CISO) at Children’s Minnesota, was named a Black healthcare leader to know by Becker’s Hospital Review. The leaders recognized in the 2024 edition are shaping the patient experience, educating and training the next generation of professionals, and advancing equity and inclusion.
Children’s Minnesota is proud to have Sam as one of our kid experts. He is a leader who believes that reducing data security risk allows Children’s Minnesota to focus on serving its patients and families. Since accepting the CISO role in Dec. 2021, he oversaw the development of a cybersecurity program, including strategy, execution and budgeting. He ensured Children’s Minnesota has the talent and resources to maintain and mature its information security program now and in the future as risks evolve. He’s managed multiple projects to reduce information security risk at Children’s Minnesota, including the following:
- Established a security framework to govern the information security program.
- Created a cybersecurity risk management function to help assess risk and identify potential vulnerabilities within the organization.
- Initiated an information security incident response program.
