What's Glucagon?

Article Translations: (Spanish)

Glucagon

Say: GLOO-kuh-gon

Glucagon is a hormone that raises blood sugar (glucose). It is made in the pancreas. When blood sugars are low, glucagon tells the liver to send sugar into the blood, which goes to the cells for energy. When someone with diabetes has a very low blood sugar level, a dose of glucagon can help raise the blood glucose quickly.
