Allina physician presents on opioid use and opioid disorder in pregnancy

Laura Colicchia, MD, a maternal-fetal-medicine physician with Minnesota Perinatal Physicians – Allina Health, presented during a virtual opioid video conference series hosted by St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, Minn on Wed., Oct. 28, 2020.

During Dr. Colicchia’s presentation, titled Opioid Use & Opioid Disorder in Pregnancy, she covered several topics including:

  • The scope of the opioid problem and of opioid disorder in women during pregnancy living in the United States.
  • The impact of opioids on pregnancy and the newborn.
  • The screening process for opioid disorder as well as treatment options during pregnancy and postpartum.

The presentation is part of CHI St. Gabriel’s University of New Mexico’s Project ECHO e-learning model with a goal of educating other rural clinics on opioid and controlled substance topics through multi-point videoconferencing to connect virtual clinics with community providers.
