Children’s Minnesota is pleased to announce that our Gender Health program has been selected for the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare’s Corman IMPACT Honors. The recognition celebrates Schwartz Center health care members who are making an impact by creating programs or initiatives that promote compassionate, collaborative care. The Gender Health program was selected for its innovative approach to providing compassionate care to vulnerable populations and building safe spaces for our patients and care teams.
“Congratulations to the entire Gender Health team on this prestigious honor. We are very proud of the work they do for the children and families we serve, as well as their advocacy on behalf of transgender and gender diverse youth in the community,” said Dr. Emily Chapman, chief medical officer and senior vice president of medical affairs at Children’s Minnesota. “The dedication of our Gender Health team exemplifies our mission to champion the health needs of all children and families.”
The Gender Health program is one of two recipients of the 2024 Corman IMPACT honors; the other being Jefferson Addiction Multidisciplinary Services at Jefferson Health, which improves health care for people who use drugs and the people who care for them.
Children’s Minnesota’s Gender Health program launched in 2019 to give historically underserved transgender and gender diverse youth a place to receive high-quality medical and mental health care designed to meet their unique needs. The goal is to affirm and support youth along their gender journey and answer all questions that parents and caregivers have along the way.
Honorable mention
In addition to the top honor for the Gender Health program, the Peer Support Salons at Children’s Minnesota was selected as a 2024 Corman IMPACT Honorable Mention. The program provides a structured gathering where multi-disciplinary caregivers engage in a facilitated conversation to exchange perspectives and ideas about practice based on their experiences. Participants experience social connection by forming and informing a salon conversation, followed by training on how to lead a Peer Support Salon. Peer Support Salons are a proactive approach to enhancing the culture of psychological safety at Children’s Minnesota.
