Children’s Minnesota honors Minnesota Senator Matt Klein with Children’s Health Hero award

Children’s Minnesota is pleased to announce Minnesota Senator Matt Klein, MD, is the 2026 recipient of the organization’s Children’s Health Hero Award. Sen. Klein, a physician himself, brings his health care expertise to his role at the state Capitol. The annual award recognizes elected officials for their commitment to championing issues vital to kids’ health. Sen. Klein represents Mendota Heights, South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights.

“The work that Children’s Minnesota does for kids in our state is awe inspiring and humbling,” Sen. Klein said. “And their courageous advocacy at the state Capitol on issues from gun violence to holding big pharma accountable is a model for all health systems. I couldn’t be more honored to receive this award and continue our good work together.”

The recognition is a result of Sen. Klein’s work in the 2026 legislative session and beyond, including authoring bills with the goal of keeping kids safe and healthy. Some of his 2026 bills aim to:

  • Decrease safety net providers’ drug costs and ensure communities have access to high-quality, comprehensive health care by requiring pharmaceutical companies to fully participate in the federal 340B drug pricing program.
  • Protect access to and insurance coverage for routine immunizations based on evidenced-based vaccine recommendations from organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Prohibit the ownership or possession of semiautomatic assault weapons and large-capacity magazines to increase the safety of children, families and their communities.

Thank you, Sen. Klein for your continued work in advocating on behalf of kids and families across the state!
