MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL (July 15, 2026) – Children’s Minnesota today announced that its Minneapolis hospital has been reverified as a Level I pediatric trauma center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma. This designation represents the highest level of pediatric trauma care available and confirms the hospital’s ability to treat the most critically injured children.

The Level I pediatric trauma center in Minneapolis is Minnesota’s only Level I pediatric trauma center located within a hospital dedicated solely to children. The hospital cares for children across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.

“Reverification as a Level I pediatric trauma center reflects the extraordinary expertise, teamwork and dedication of our trauma and emergency department care teams,” said Nathaniel Kreykes, MD, medical director of the trauma program at Children’s Minnesota. “Families can trust that when their child needs us most, we are ready — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — with the specialized care they deserve.”

A Level I pediatric trauma center is the highest designation awarded by the ACS for the care of injured patients, and indicates a hospital has the specialists, resources and systems in place to provide comprehensive care for children with serious and life-threatening injuries.

As the busiest pediatric trauma program in the region, Children’s Minnesota cares for more than 800 children each year who require hospitalization for traumatic injuries, and thousands more who are treated in its emergency departments.

To achieve Level I pediatric trauma center reverification, Children’s Minnesota underwent a rigorous review by reviewers from the ACS Committee on Trauma. This process evaluates a hospital’s ability to deliver high-quality trauma care, including staffing, resources, performance improvement initiatives and patient outcomes. Reverification confirms that Children’s Minnesota continues to meet the highest national standards for pediatric trauma care.
