Creating a better emergency care experience: Children’s Minnesota emergency department awarded for excellence

Children’s Minnesota’s Minneapolis emergency department renovation, designed to reduce wait times and improve the patient care experience, has been recognized on Finance & Commerce’s Top Projects list, as well as on Minnesota Physician’s Health Care Architecture and Design Honor Roll 2026.

In December 2025, Children’s Minnesota launched a redesign of our Minneapolis emergency department. Along with the physical redesign, the pediatric health system introduced a new check-in and symptom screening process to help kids receive care sooner. The streamlined care model was a key feature of a yearlong comprehensive renovation of the kid-focused Minneapolis emergency department, done in partnership with McGough Construction and GBBN Architects.

“We’re proud to be able to provide a better experience for our patients and their families,” said Brenda Beckwith, vice president of clinical services at Children’s Minnesota. “These recognitions reflect our commitment to providing excellent pediatric emergency medicine, improving patient experience, and innovation.”
