Children’s Minnesota is proud to announce that the Peer Support Program has received an Exceptional Minnesota Workplace Award from the Minnesota Hospital Association. The award honors hospitals that go the extra mile in enhancing employee satisfaction through creative retention strategies.

The program’s goal is to provide support and healing for staff members following an unanticipated medical event. The program added a new initiative in 2024: Peer Support Salons which are structured gatherings where multi-disciplinary caregivers engage in a facilitated conversation to exchange perspectives and ideas about practice based on their experiences.

Since its launch in 2018, the Peer Support Program has contributed to enhancing employee well-being, collaboration, retention and resilience. It is a crucial strategy Children’s Minnesota uses to do our part in addressing the health care worker burnout crisis happening across the country and aligns with the U.S. Surgeon General’s call to action in 2022.

“Receiving the Exceptional Minnesota Workplace Award is a testament to the tireless efforts of every employee involved in the Peer Support Program. Their commitment translates into a more positive, supportive and psychologically safe work environment that benefits both staff and our patients and families,” said Rachael Lamsal, manager of quality and patient safety.

Cassie Johnson, cancer and blood disorders program quality manager and Peer Support steering committee member, accepted the award on Sept. 19 at MHA’s Fall Conference.
