Dr. Gigi Chawla shares the benefits of screen-free challenges

Dr. Gigi Chawla, chief of general pediatrics, told the Star Tribune that excessive screen time can lead to a variety of health concerns in teens including insufficient sleep, anxiety and depression. For younger children, the issues are more developmental, and may make it more difficult to learn how to calm themselves. Dr. Chawla endorses challenges such as Screen-Free Week but understands that it may end up being harder for parents than for kids.
