Work Here Wednesday: Brandi Salas, health unit coordinator

At Children’s Minnesota, we work for our patients and families and we believe children come first. That goes for all the positions open here. Our doctors, nurses, support staff, custodial staff, cooks and more are all important to the mission of Children’s.

Hear from Brandi

To learn more about what it’s like to work as a HUC at Children’s Minnesota, we spoke with Brandi Salas, a HUC in our Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) and facial plastic surgery program.

What inspired you to work as a HUC?

I’ve always wanted to work in the health care field, and I enjoy administrative medical work.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

I work in the clinic all day, usually starting around 7:45 a.m. and ending around 5 p.m. I check patients in, make follow up appointments, answer incoming calls, make outgoing calls, order office supplies and much more. My day-to-day activities are a mix of multiple tasks depending on what the need for that particular day is.

What do you love most about your job?

I love seeing the smile on kids’ faces after they receive care and start to feel better. I also love how excited patients and families get after they receive new hearing aids and can hear so much better. Talking with families in the clinic is also rewarding since I hear so many unique stories.

We’re looking for individuals who are driven to join us in our mission to champion the health needs of children and their families. Want to make Children’s Minnesota an even better place? Apply today.
