Work Here Wednesday: Staff RN

At Children’s Minnesota, we believe we’re stronger when we team up with patients, families, the community and each other. One way we support each other is through employee resource groups (ERGs).

Hear from Jeanette

To learn more about how ERGs help create an environment where employees can build communities and help each other be their best, we spoke with Jeanette LaBarre, a registered nurse (RN) clinical supervisor and a leader in our People Respecting Individual Differences Equally (PRIDE) ERG.

Tell us more about your job at Children’s.

I am the RN clinical supervisor of infectious disease, immunology and genetics. In a nutshell, that means I am responsible for the direct oversight of all non-provider clinical staff, as well as pretty much anything that falls into the clinical realm.

How long have you worked here?

I have been a proud Children’s employee for 5 years 4 months and 21 days, that is if you’re reading this on October 23.

What inspired you to join the PRIDE ERG?

I am very shy and introverted, so I was looking for a place to come out of my shell… I jest! There were multiple reasons but first and foremost, as part of the LGBTQ workforce, I know firsthand how scary and vulnerable it is to be your authentic self at work. On that same token, I know how important it is to not only stand up and be counted, but also have your voice heard. The PRIDE ERG is working hard to help make Children’s a place that our LGBTQ employees, patients/families, and our allies, can all feel safe, proud and included. I wanted to be a part of that. Also, let’s be honest… our button is super adorable.

What do you love most about being a member of the PRIDE ERG?

The people I have met! It has also allowed me to be more involved in Children’s diversity and inclusion work and that’s been amazing. James Burroughs, chief equity and inclusion officer, and his team are really working hard and it fills my heart with joy to be a part of it. Oh, and I would be remiss not to mention our button…I love our button.

Interested in joining our community?

We’re always looking for individuals who are driven to join us in our mission to champion the health needs of children and their families. Want to make Children’s Minnesota an even better place? Apply today.
