A manual wheelchair is a supportive chair on wheels. A child or teen can roll the wheelchair independently by pulling or pushing the wheels. Or, another person can stand behind the wheelchair and push it.
Kids ages 5 and older who have trouble walking might need to use a manual wheelchair. Manual wheelchairs may be a good choice for kids who go to school or need to sit for long periods of time.
Manual wheelchairs are usually covered by insurance, but check with your child's doctor to know for sure.
