Cerebrovascular Care

Overview

The cerebrovascular and stroke program at Children’s Minnesota brings together a team of experts to provide the most advanced level of care for kids and young adults. This program is one of only a few dedicated pediatric cerebrovascular and stroke programs in the country, which brings a depth of experience, high-quality multidisciplinary treatments, long-term management and strong clinical outcomes for patients in the region.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Regional leaders: one of a few pediatric specific programs performing open and endovascular treatments for cerebrovascular diseases.
  • Advanced technology: Intraoperative MRI for precise imaging during surgery.
  • New biplanar neuroangiography suite: A dedicated suite for embolization procedures .
  • Transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD): A safe and painless method to check blood flow in the brain. Especially useful for those with sickle cell disease, TDCD regularly measures blood flow speeds, monitors changes and helps detect if strokes have happened.
  • Clinical guidelines: Development of guidelines and protocols by multiple subspecialists for identifying and treating strokes.
  • Research: Participation in international research collaborations, such as the International Pediatric Stroke Study (IPSS), which advance treatments of cerebrovascular disease.

Hear from Meysam Kebriaei, MD and Collin Torok, MD as they discuss the launch of the region’s first dedicated pediatric neuroangiography suite, located at Children’s Minnesota. Producing 3D images of blood vessels in and around the brain, it will allow our team of kid experts to diagnose and treat pediatric stroke, aneurysms, AVMs, brain tumors and more, with unmatched precision.
