Gregg and Beth Cummings participated in the 28th annual Children’s Hospitals Golf Benefit thinking this would be a fun way to give back to an organization they love, but had no idea it would lead them to compete in Austria. Gregg has been participating in this golf tournament for three years and his wife, Beth, joined him this summer for her first time playing. The tournament benefits the Family Needs Fund at Children’s Minnesota. This fund provides patient families without financial means the support to cover expenses such as prescriptions, transportation costs and more. However, golf isn’t the only connection the couple has to Children’s Minnesota.
Staying connected with Children’s Minnesota
Gregg and Beth have both been involved with Children’s Minnesota for years. In 2013, they joined a taskforce to fund the beginning of the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul and the gym inside of the family room.
“It’s such a wonderful health system that we have access to, and we want to continue to support it,” Beth stated.
Their involvement stretches far beyond financial support of Children’s Minnesota. The couple is also involved in community events like Walk for Amazing and has served meals to patient families at the Ronald McDonald Family room many times. Gregg competed in the Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic for years, and additionally serves as a legacy advisor with the Children’s Minnesota Foundation. This group of charitably-minded professionals, specializing in fields ranging from wealth advisors to attorneys and accountants and more, meet a few times a year to assist the foundation.
A winning streak
Although this was the couple’s first time competing in this tournament as a duo, they won the most points and qualified for the next tournament in the Audi Quattro Cup.
After their big win, the couple went on to compete in the 2019 North American Audi Quattro Cup Finals at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. The couple made sure to bring Children’s Minnesota branded golf balls with to this tournament for good luck, and to keep in touch with why they were competing in the first place.
“This has really been about national community building for us,” said Beth. “It’s been a surreal experience.”
In fact, one of their caddies at the North American finals was also from Minnesota, and knew about Children’s Minnesota and the work the health system does for the community. “It’s neat how people rally around you when you do something good for the community,” Gregg explained.
Much to their surprise, the couple won yet again. The Cummings and their Children’s Minnesota golf balls will be off to Kitzbühel, Austria, to compete in the World Finals. We wish them the best of luck!

The 29th annual Children’s Hospitals Golf Benefit will be held Monday, August 31, 2020 at the White Bear Yacht Club! In the nearly three decades that this event has occurred, more than $2.2 million has been raised for the Family Needs Fund at Children’s Minnesota.
Join us for either a morning or afternoon round of golf. Participants may enter as foursome or as individuals, to golf for fun or to compete. No matter the skill level, all are welcome to join!
