Children’s Minnesota CFO among Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s 2020 CFO of the Year honorees

Children’s Minnesota CFO, Brenda McCormick, has been named an honoree for the 2020 CFO of the Year award by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. Brenda is among a few select honorees recognized for their vital role in making businesses, institutions and nonprofits successful.

In a feature in honor of her recognition, Brenda went in depth about her role at Children’s Minnesota and her love of finance.

“I always knew I wanted to work in a business. From a young age I excelled at math, and when I took my first corporate finance class in graduate school, I knew I found my calling,” she said in her interview. “I love the team work and collaborative nature of corporate finance, and value the broad business and operational breadth that’s required.”

Brenda also discussed how Children’s Minnesota has been navigating the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now that we’re further into the crisis, we can see that the pandemic has accelerated some pre-existing trends in health care. Children’s Minnesota is addressing the future and those trends by taking a comprehensive look across our entire system, keeping the needs of our patient families at the center of our evaluation,” she said.

Brenda brings nearly 30 years of experience in finance leadership roles across industries in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. As CFO at Children’s Minnesota, she is a vital member of the executive leadership team and part of the strategy group tasked with shaping the future of the health care system. Brenda is a forward-thinking leader dedicated to ensuring the growth and profitability of the organization. She leads Children’s Minnesota’s finance teams, including planning and analysis, controllership, treasury and investments, strategic payer contracting, revenue cycle operations, health information management, grant accounting, employee retirement benefits and foundation finances. She has brought an increased focus on leadership development and empowers her teams with the tools and skills needed to ensure the organization’s success.
