Ashley Gyura, APRN, CNP, DNP, a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) in infectious disease at Children’s Minnesota, has been selected as the clinical expert advisor with the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Association (NAPNAP) for the Nurse Practitioner Education and Knowledge Assessment for Lyme Disease Initiative, made possible by a cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The role will bring Dr. Gyura to the forefront of national education and outreach efforts focusing on Lyme disease to ensure clinicians have access to the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment tools for early detection and intervention. She began the position in January 2022 and has already developed a national survey on Lyme disease knowledge of nurse practitioners. She will soon begin a national radio and podcast tour with NAPNAP and the CDC.
Dr. Gyura is a veteran of the United States Army and obtained her undergraduate degree in nursing from Saint Ambrose University in Iowa. As a nurse, she worked in general medicine, surgical intensive care and pediatric skeletal dysplasias. She earned a Master of Science and a doctorate of nursing practice from Columbia University in the city of New York and started her pediatric nurse practitioner career in the underserved communities of East Harlem and the East Bronx. She then joined Children’s Minnesota in 2018. She has presented locally and nationally and is a contributing author for two book chapters on infectious disease laboratory testing.
