Congratulations to the 170 physicians who provide care at Children’s Minnesota for being recognized as Top Doctors 2025 in the July issue of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.
In addition, the issue’s feature story focused on vaccines and highlighted the research of Anne Bendel, MD, director of neuro-oncology research, and Maggie Skrypek, MD, pediatric neuro-oncologist at Children’s Minnesota. The pair were interviewed about their clinical trial on a vaccine therapy for children and young adults diagnosed with two of the deadliest pediatric brain cancers – diffuse midline gliomas (DMGs) and recurrent high-grade gliomas (HGGs). The trial is only available at Children’s Minnesota.
In the article, Dr. Skrypek explained how the vaccine is similar to preventative vaccines like the influenza vaccine. “It’s similar in the idea that it is training the immune system to recognize something (tumor cells) as foreign and attack it but different in the idea that it is not meant to prevent tumor development like a preventative vaccine is supposed to do for an infectious disease.”
“For our patient population, this [trial] is the most hopeful treatment that we have,” Dr. Skrypek told the magazine.
Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s Top Doctors were nominated by other doctors in the Twin Cities metro area. Candidates were grouped by specialty and evaluated on several factors including peer recognition and professional achievement. The top-scoring doctors were named the 2025 Top Doctors.
The Top Doctors are listed in the July issue of the magazine and online.
