Children’s Minnesota receives Practice Transition Accreditation Program

Children’s Minnesota is pleased to announce that it has received accreditation with distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP®). The Practice Transition Accreditation Program sets the global standard for residency or fellowship programs that transition registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses into new practice settings.

“It’s an honor for Children’s Minnesota to be recognized for its nursing Transition to Practice Program,” said Pamala VanHazinga, MBA, BSN, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president patient care services. “Using a combination of didactic and precepted clinical experiences, this program has successfully transitioned 450 newly licensed nurses from academia into professional nursing practice at Children’s Minnesota. To be recognized with additional distinction from ANCC is a true testament of the valuable hands-on experience and personal support our program offers new nurses.”

To achieve PTAP accreditation, organizations must pass an extensive application process, including a detailed application, submission of written documentation in the form of a self-study, and a site visit, which was conducted virtually. Children’s Minnesota’s Transition to Practice Program is the 166th program to earn this accreditation from the ANCC. Accreditation includes the Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis and St. Paul Hospitals, as well as The Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children’s Minnesota. Accreditation is granted for four years.

The Children’s Minnesota Transition to Practice Program was established in 2012 and applications are accepted three times a year. The program is designed to transition newly graduated nurses from the academic to the professional practice environment in a welcoming and supportive way. This hybrid program combines didactic, simulation, eLearns, reflection, patient care experiences, and initial precepted clinical shifts.
