Closed Reduction Percutaneous Pinning - Upper

Your child has sustained the following injury:

Please follow the activity restrictions listed below for the above referenced injury:

Activity restrictions:

No full contact physical activities, high impact activities or competitive sports until cleared by the orthopedic surgeon. This includes no school gym (PE), no school recess, and physical activities/sports such as gymnastics, dance, biking, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, jungle gyms, skateboarding, rollerblading, basketball, football, ice/field hockey, skating, lacrosse, boxing, martial arts, parkour, rugby, wrestling, handball, climbing, weight training, trampoline, or rough play. No running, jumping, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting, or heavy gripping.

Additional instructions:

Keep cast clean, dry, and intact. Neurovascular checks every hour while awake for 24 – 48 hours. Elevate the affected extremity above the heart when in bed. No weight bearing of the extremity. Use sling when out of bed.

Return to school: Your child may return to school with the restrictions listed above, unless instructed otherwise by the Orthopedic Surgeon.

Diet: Resume a regular diet as tolerated.

Follow-up: Follow up with the Orthopedic Surgeon, as recommended. Please call to schedule your follow-up appointment at 651-220-5700.

Concerns/symptoms: Contact the Orthopedic clinic if your child experiences increased pain or swelling, decreased movement, or increased temperature greater than 38.5° C (101.3° F).
