Once a kid feels comfortable being home alone during the daytime, he or she may be ready to stay home alone in the evening. For most kids, that means about age 12 or 13.
As in the daytime, it's important to know the rules about answering the phone and what you would do if someone came to the door. Having emergency numbers handy also remains important. If your mom or dad lets you have a friend over, be sure that your friend understand the rules for being home alone, too.
