Our neurodevelopmental team at Children’s Minnesota includes neuropsychologists and medical providers who specialize in how brain development affects a child’s thinking, learning, emotions and behavior. Who should be seen in the neurodevelopmental clinic?
Any child whose medical, developmental, or learning history suggests that a child’s cognitive or behavioral needs may benefit from a team-based approach for recommendations and comprehensive care.
Do I need a referral to be seen in the neurodevelopmental clinic?
Yes, a referral is required from another provider within the Children’s Minnesota network to be seen in the neurodevelopmental clinic.
Are services and evaluations covered by insurance?
Most neurodevelopmental services are covered by insurance providers. It may be helpful to check with your insurance provider to ensure Children’s Minnesota is considered within your preferred network.
How long do the visits and evaluations take?
Typically, you will have a brief meeting with an intake scheduling team member to determine which type of provider to see first. Families often meet virtually with a medical or neuropsychology provider, then come in person to complete the developmental and/or medical evaluations, which can be a short visit to multi-day visit depending on the child’s needs.
How often will our child need follow-up visits with the care team?
Follow-up schedules vary based on your child’s needs. Neuropsychologists may follow patients for evaluations every 2-5 years. Medical providers typically follow patients every 3-12 months, depending on your child’s health and whether medications are part of their care plan.
