Psychology program
Evidence-based psychology treatment
Our mental health experts provide compassionate, evidence-based mental health care for children and adolescents within Children’s Minnesota. Our team includes licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and highly supervised trainees — from practicum students to postdoctoral fellows.
We specialize in supporting the emotional, behavioral and developmental needs of children and deliver seamless, coordinated care that treats the whole child — mind and body — together.
We offer two branches of care: outpatient psychology, where families come to our clinics for therapy, assessment and ongoing support, and pediatric psychology embedded in medical settings, where providers meet children during hospital stays or specialty visits.

Two branches of pediatric psychological care
Outpatient psychology care
Our outpatient psychology services give families a place to meet with a mental health provider for therapy, assessments and ongoing support. These visits happen in a clinic setting and can help with concerns like anxiety, depression, behavior changes, coping with medical conditions and overall emotional health. Each plan is personalized, age‑appropriate and based on proven treatments.
Embedded psychology care
Our pediatric psychology team is embedded within specialty medical clinics and hospital units. This means we meet children where they already receive medical care — for example, diabetes, cancer and blood disorders, neurology, concussion, rehabilitation, feeding services and more. These providers have specialized training and a deep understanding of the medical conditions they support, helping children cope with procedures, manage symptoms, navigate treatment and build resilience.
Being embedded makes care easier and more connected. Your child’s psychological provider works with the medical team in real time so emotional health is cared for along with physical health.
Expert psychological assessment
A psychological assessment is a series of tests and interviews that help us understand your child’s strengths, challenges and the best treatment options.
Our pediatric psychology team provides assessments across all our care settings — outpatient clinics, embedded specialty care and consultations during inpatient hospital stays — to ensure emotional health is addressed alongside physical health.
