Children’s Minnesota doctors performed one of the first successful open fetal surgeries ever on a fetal pericardial teratoma, a tumor on the heart of the fetus. An incision in the mother’s uterus allowed surgeons to remove nearly 90% of the tumor, which was the size of an orange and approximately four times the size of baby’s heart.
