Clinical educator shares his 31-year career at Children’s Minnesota

Jedd NivalaAt Children’s Minnesota, we believe children always come first. They are awesomely resilient. Eternally optimistic. Totally fearless. They are what we want to be when we grow up.

Jedd Nivala, clinical educator, has been working at Children’s Minnesota for 31 years now. He will be sharing his experience working as a clinical educator in our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) below.

Tell us why you like your job and position.

“I love my job! I get to teach and instruct nurses new to the PICU on how to be a Children’s Minnesota nurse, as well as provide education and learning opportunities for current staff. I was taught by the original nurses of the PICU, so I have a strong obligation and privilege to pass on the knowledge I have gained from them, both academic and emotional, to the nurses I teach to maintain our high standards of care.”

What do you like about working in this field/department?

“I get to work with great people doing great things. Working in the PICU, you will see and feel just about every emotion possible. The technology is always changing, the patients vary in age as much as their diagnosis and there is always something new to learn. There is no ordinary day.”

Why do you like working at Children’s Minnesota?

“I get to work with people who have passion and try every day to make today better for the patients, families and each other.”
