Dr. Marc Gorelick, president and CEO of Children’s Minnesota, shared how the organization is addressing numerous issues impacting the health of kids and the community in a recent CEO Viewpoint interview with Scottsdale Institute.

In the interview, Dr. Gorelick discussed the increase in demand for pediatric mental health services; explaining how Children’s Minnesota’s plan to open its first inpatient mental health unit is its next step in providing the full continuum of mental health care for kids and teens.

In addition, Dr. Gorelick was asked about this year’s launch of The Collective for Community Health. He shared how The Collective brings greater structure of the organization’s community health initiatives, including those around diversity, equity and inclusion.

“You must identify community needs and build trust. That gets back to my roots as an ER physician: you’re almost always going to encounter someone you haven’t seen before. We serve communities that have historical inequities in not just health but legal and political access. It takes time to build trust, but we’ve made progress,” said Dr. Gorelick.

Dr. Gorelick also talked about the organization’s efforts to partner with local educational institutions to increase the number of kids going into nursing and other health professions.

Children’s Minnesota is a member of Scottsdale Institute, which aims to bring together leading health systems to share best practices in information technology (IT).
