Rendalisa’s story started with a fight for survival. Born at just 22 weeks and three days, she entered the world far earlier than expected and faced daunting odds from day one. Her arrival marked the beginning of a long neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) journey filled with specialized care, hopes and prayers.
Over 144 days in the NICU and infant care center (ICC), Rendalisa battled lung disease, an intestinal perforation, and more, but her family and care team celebrated every bit of progress. The road was long, and at times overwhelming, but each small step forward mattered.
Today, at nearly two years old, Rendalisa is thriving. She is walking, growing and achieving milestones that once felt far away.
“I’ve often been asked what is my job? What do I do? And I say I get to take care of miracles for a living, and I think Rendalisa is a prime example of that miracle,” Jennifer Berger, MD, Children’s Minnesota neonatologist said.
From her earliest days in the NICU to the progress she is making now, Rendalisa’s family held onto hope that she would not only survive, but thrive, bringing her to where she is today.
