St. Paul police bring holiday cheer to patients at Children’s Minnesota

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2019, the St. Paul police department brought gifts to patients and families at the Children’s Minnesota St. Paul hospital. But they didn’t come alone! Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves joined to spread some holiday cheer as part of the department’s Cops and Kids program.

The St. Paul police traveled down West Seventh with their friends from the North Pole in tow to meet with dozens of patients and families, who were singing Christmas carols as they waited for the special visitors. When the department arrived with their gifts in hand, kids gathered to hug Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as remind them of just how good they had been this year!

Not only is this a beloved community event, it’s one of our staffs’ favorite events of the year.”I love that this event allows kids that would typically meet Santa each year to still do so, even if they can’t leave the hospital. We’re so thankful that the St. Paul police department puts this event on annually to bring the community’s spirit to our patients and families,” said Rachel Calvert, Child Life and Music Therapy manager.

This visit marked the 12th year of the volunteer-run Cops and Kids program. The St. Paul officers use proceeds from the year’s fundraisers to buy holiday gifts for Children’s patients.
