Overview

Seventy percent of critically ill children’s conditions are primarily due to pulmonary complications. That’s why Children’s Minnesota, in collaboration with Children’s Respiratory & Critical Care Specialists, has a team of 20 critical care physicians, caring for kids when and where they most need our help.

Comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and management of pulmonary disorders:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic lung disease of prematurity
  • Shortness of breath with exercise
  • Restrictive/interstitial lung disease
  • Recurrent pneumonia and croup
  • Persistent coughing
  • Wheezing of all causes
  • Congenital lesions of the respiratory tract
  • Bronchopulmonary disease

Respiratory care therapeutic services:

  • Primary ciliary dyskinesia and cystic fibrosis
  • Chronic respiratory failure/apnea syndromes
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Noninvasive ventilation
  • Aerosol therapy
  • Airway clearance and bronchial drainage
  • Oxygen and humidity therapy
  • Flexible bronchoscopy

Pulmonary diagnostic services:

  • Airway challenge testing
  • Infant and childhood pulmonary function testing
  • Diagnostic bronchoscopy
  • Cardiopulmonary exercise testing
  • Exhaled nitric oxide testing
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Non-invasive CO2 monitoring
