Dr. Yoav Messinger honored with Charles Bolles Bolles-Rogers Award

Congratulations to Yoav Messinger, MD, pediatric oncologist at Children’s Minnesota, for being honored with the Charles Bolles Bolles-Rogers Award. The awardDr. Yoav Messinger is presented by the Advocates for Better Health Foundation to a physician who has made exceptional contributions to medical research, achievement and/or leadership.  

Dr. Messinger’s work has led to major advancements in the field of pediatric oncology. He led the Children’s Minnesota Cancer and Blood Disorders program as medical director and served as principal investigator for the International Pleuropulmonary Blastoma (PPB)/DICER1 Registry. His research has been published in many prestigious peer reviewed journals, including Science and the Journal of Clinical Oncology  

Dr. Messinger has a track record of collaboration to advance research and clinical care, an important skill in pediatric oncology where all tumors are rare tumors. Through his work in PPB, he collaborated with pediatric oncology experts worldwide, including Germany, Italy, France and Israel, to devise what is now the standard care regimen, IVADo (ifosfamide, vincristine, actinomycin-D and doxorubicin), for advanced PPB.  

Kris Ann Schultz, MD, scientific director of the Cancer and Blood Disorders program at Children’s Minnesota, describes him as “a beloved colleague, mentor and friend to all.” In her nomination for Dr. Messinger, Dr. Schultz also shared, “There are almost no words to convey what his work has meant to our field and continues to mean to children, families and colleagues around the world.”
