MINNEAPOLIS, (Nov. 8, 2022) — The Mother Baby Center, a partnership between Allina Health and Children’s Minnesota, is pleased to announce all three Mother Baby Centers in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Coon Rapids have been named as 2022-2023 High Performing hospitals for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News and World Report’s national rankings for Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
U.S. News and World Report’s annual evaluation is designed to assist expectant parents in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care.
“Our Mother Baby Centers take great pride in providing the highest quality care possible for expectant mothers and it is an honor to have that work recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Dr. William Wagner, Interim Vice President Mother Baby Clinical Service Line. “Our team proudly offers a unique, personalized experience for our expectant parents and their babies with the highest-level of safety and compassionate care throughout the childbirth journey. It is gratifying to have that commitment honored in this way.”
The Mother Baby Centers were evaluated for the overall quality of care for uncomplicated pregnancies, and objective measures such as:
- Birth rate for cesarean delivery (C-section) among low-risk births.
- Rate of unexpected newborn complications (UNC) in term newborns.
- Rate of exclusive breast milk feeding.
- Confirmation of hospitals routinely offers vaginal birth after cesarean.
Nearly 650 hospitals across the country that provide labor and delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies were evaluated for the 2022-2023 U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Fewer than half of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.
