Head and Neck Cancers Program

Children’s Minnesota treatment results for head and neck cancers consistently rank among the leading U.S. hospitals participating in the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program.

The head and neck cancers program is the largest in Minnesota and one of the largest in the Upper Midwest. The cancer and blood disorders team diagnoses and treats cancers of the throat, mouth, salivary glands, sinuses, thyroid gland, tongue and tonsil. The team includes pediatric specialists from a wide variety of disciplines, including pediatric ENT surgery, radiation oncology, pain management, anesthesia, psychology, pharmacy, nutrition, and others.

The head and neck cancers program offers access to a variety of clinical trials through Children’s Minnesota Oncology Group. The majority of Children’s Minnesota cancer and blood disorders patients are enrolled in clinical trials.

The program places a special emphasis on preserving vital functions such as your child’s talking and eating skills. Rehabilitative services, including speech pathology, occupational therapy, and a feeding disorders clinic, are integrated into the care provided through the program.
