MINNEAPOLIS (August 4, 2021) – Children’s Minnesota is joining eight local health care organizations in requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for employees, professional staff, volunteers and contractors. The requirement will go into effect no sooner than Sept. 7, 2021, and will include some medical and religious exemptions.

With increasing cases of COVID-19 in the community – driven by highly transmissible variants – it is our duty as the kid experts in the region to deliver the safest care possible. There is currently no COVID-19 vaccine approved for children younger than 12 years old, who make up a large portion of our patient population. By requiring employees get vaccinated, we can help prevent the kids we care for, and their families, from becoming severely ill or from dying from COVID-19.

Since COVID-19 vaccines became available to frontline workers in December 2020, Children’s Minnesota has strongly encouraged all staff to get vaccinated. We are proud to report that 86 percent of Children’s Minnesota employees have received at least one dose.

Children’s Minnesota offers the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to employees, professional staff, volunteers and contractors through its Employee Health Services. The vaccine is provided free of charge.
