Important update for families with UCare PMAP or MinnesotaCare coverage

Translations: Spanish | Somali | Hmong

Effective Sept. 1, 2025, UCare will no longer offer Prepaid Medical Assistance Program (PMAP) and MinnesotaCare coverage in 11 Minnesota counties. This change may affect your family’s health plan.

Impacted counties: Benton, Chisago, Crow Wing, Pennington, Ramsey, Roseau, Sherburne, Stearns, St. Louis, Wadena, and Wright.

What this means for your child

  • Your child is not losing Medicaid or MinnesotaCare coverage. Your child will remain insured and continue to qualify for these programs.
  • You need to choose a new health plan for your family. The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has mailed letters to affected families. These letters will explain that you need to choose either Blue Plus or Medica as your new health plan.

Key action steps

  1. Open and read the letter from DHS as soon as possible.
  2. Choose a new health plan (Blue Plus or Medica) by July 28, 2025. Follow the instructions in the letter from DHS to make your selection.
  3. If you do not choose a plan by July 28, 2025, the state will automatically assign you to either Blue Plus or Medica. While this ensures continued coverage, choosing your plan allows you to make the best decision for your family.

Will my child still be able to see their providers and access prescriptions at Children’s Minnesota?

We anticipate minimal disruption to your child’s access to care and prescriptions at Children’s Minnesota. Most of our providers and outpatient pharmacies are in-network with both Blue Plus and Medica. However, it’s always a good idea to confirm with your specific Children’s Minnesota providers or clinics once you’ve made your new health plan selection. Please bring your child’s new insurance card with you to any clinic, hospital, or pharmacy visit.
