Pediatric cardiac CT scans and CT angiography

Computed tomography (CT) is an X-ray that produces more detailed images of internal organs than a conventional X-ray can. The CT computer displays detailed images of organs, bones, and other tissues. Computed tomographic angiography uses CT technology and three-dimensional reconstruction to produce images similar to angiograms without the need for an invasive procedure.

Children’s Minnesota offers access to pediatric-trained radiologists who work closely with cardiologists to perform the tests. Imaging experts and pediatric cardiologists, Dr. Angela Kelle and Dr. Charles Shepard, are also part of the team. Thanks to the expertise and training of Dr. Kelle, Dr. Shepard, and the other team members, tests can be performed quickly, reducing the need for children to remain still for prolonged periods and minimizing radiation exposure.
