Conversation with Georgia Fort

Nearly two years since the murder of George Floyd, in many ways our community is back to where we started. Most recently, Amir Locke was killed by officers as a result of a no-knock warrant. Deshaun Hill, a young 15-year-old boy, was shot in north Minneapolis. Throughout Minnesota and the entire country, many promises were made and initiatives started after George Floyd.

After his killing, Children’s Minnesota spearheaded a statement against racism and then we became a founding member of the Minnesota Business Coalition for Racial Equity. But now, we’re digging even deeper. What progress has been made? What challenges and opportunities still exist? How can we move forward and heal from everything we have witnessed?

Let’s talk about it

On Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, I spoke with Georgia Fort, a local independent journalist, about moving forward and working toward ending health disparities. We were joined by Children’s Minnesota CEO Dr. Marc Gorelick, Tiffani Daniels, managing director of the Minnesota Business Coalition for Racial Equity, and Samuel Simmons, a behavioral heath consultant.
