Neonatal float RN shares her career experience at Children’s Minnesota

At Children’s Minnesota, we believe children always come first. They are awesomely resilient. Eternally optimistic. Totally fearless. They are what we want to be when we grow up.

Transition to practice (TTP) program for new grads

Children’s Minnesota’s transition to practice (TTP) program was created to support newly licensed nurses transition to the professional nursing environment by using combinations of didactic and precepted clinical experiences. While a part of this program, participants can also expect to be in one of our available RN positions.

Calley Richardson, neonatal float RN, is a nurse in our TTP program. She will be sharing her experience in the program and all her favorite things about her career below.

What’s your position and how long have you been at Children’s Minnesota?

“I am a neonatal float RN and have been here since July of 2022.”

Tell us why you like your job and position.

“I love my job because I have always been passionate about kids and providing them and their families with the quality of care I would want if I was in their shoes. This job reminds me to celebrate the little successes in everyday life.”

What do you like about working in this field/department?

“I like working as a nurse because it is one of the few jobs that not only allows you to advance in your education but also teaches you invaluable life lessons through the people you are fortunate enough to work with and care for!”

Why do you like working at Children’s Minnesota?

“I love working at Children’s Minnesota because they have taught me so much about inclusivity and diversity. Additionally, everyone I have met only ever wants to see you succeed and are always willing to help each other in times of need.”

What is the most exciting part about being in our TTP program at Children’s Minnesota?

“The most exciting thing about being in the TTP program at Children’s Minnesota is that it allows for you have a sense of community with others who are in similar positions as you in their nursing careers. The TTP program also helps build your confidence as a nurse before you step into the hospital and bedside.”

What advice would you give to upcoming RNs going into the program?

“Always ask the question no matter how small and silly you think it may be. Be friendly with your co-workers and always try to leave your assignment better than it was when you got there! And most importantly, don’t forget to believe in yourself!”
